Imparting Smiles desire and commitment is to create opportunities for impoverished children. We want to go beyond just providing enough food to eat, clean water to drink and a place to live. It is our goal to give them a strong education so that each of them can have the chance to make a better future for themselves, their families and their villages.
The children we help come from situations that prevented them from learning and attending school. We bring them to the Center so that they can be close to the public schools and are able to attend. We have full time Khmer teachers on staff to help them in their studies and supplement their learning. They also receive extra curricular studies in music, art, language and computer.
Students attend school six days a week. On a normal day each student wakes up at 5:30 a.m. to help with chores and eat breakfast. By 7 a.m. they need to be at school and by lunch time they come back. The afternoons are then filled with two to three hours of learning at the Center. Teaching is also done in the evenings for the older children.
Children's Center Requires Three Components to be Successful in Transforming the lives of impoverished children:
Children must be educated to at least high school and given opportunities for university level study. They will receive extra education in both regular education and vocational skills
Children must be taught key values and character such as obedience to elders, politeness, hard work, honesty and many other character traits.
EXCELLENCE IN SKILLS
Children must be taught a wide variety of
marketable skills such as English, computers, mechanics, business and other areas so that they may be successful later in life.
